Arrivando nei pressi della porta senese, è possibile scorgere un tabernacolo con l’effigie della Madonna col Bambino datata 1522. Si tratta di un’opera in maiolica policroma di scuola Robbiana. La particolare tecnica della terracotta invetriata iniziata da Luca della Robbia nel Quattrocento e portata avanti del nipote Andrea e dei suoi cinque figli nel secolo successivo, all'interno di una bottega a gestione familiare alimentata, con sorprendente vitalità produttiva, da ben tre generazioni di artisti, si è poi diffusa fino a sfociare in una produzione che non riguarda solo l’Italia ma in tutta l'Europa e migrata poi furtivamente nelle botteghe di altri importanti maestri del Rinascimento come Benedetto e Santi Buglione, i Sansovino, Giovan Francesco Rustici e Baccio da Montelupo

Near the Sienese door, it is possible to discover a tabernacle with the image of the Virgin Mary with Child dating back to 1522. It is a work of art in polychrome majolica by the Robbiana School. The peculiar technique of “glazed earthenware” was begun by Luca Della Robbia during the XV century and was carried on into the following century by his grandson Andrea and his five sons inside a small market shop owned by the Della Robbia family. With the astonishing productive vitality of three generations of artists it then spread, resulting in widespread production, not only in Italy but also in all of Europe. It passed furtively from one studio to another owned by important masters of the Renaissance period such as Benedetto and Santi Buglione, the Sansovinos, Giovan Francesco Rustici and Baccio da Montelupo.
