Punto 3

Il monumento ricorda la strage nazi-fascista perpetrata in questo paese e nella vicina frazione di Cornia il 29 Giugno 1944 dalla divisione tedesca Hermann Göring. Persero la vita 176 civili inermi. Gli uomini furono uccisi in questa piazza in gruppi di cinque con un colpo di pistola alla nuca. Altri vennero massacrati nelle loro case. Lo stesso giorno i due paesi vennero dati alle fiamme.

The monument reminds the nazi-fascist massacre committed in this town and in the near village of Cornia by the German division “Hermann Göring” in the 29th June 1944 176 unarmed citizens lost their lives. The men were shot in the head in this square in groups of five. Other victims were massacred in their homes. In the same day Civitella and Cornia were burned down.
